Our eco tourism based nature trail covers a virgin forest / jungle between Sigiriya and Minneriya, Sri Lanka. It is a hundred percent natural trek that can be enjoyed to the utmost with Mother Nature. This nature trail is tailored for two nights and three days but can be altered according to the age and abilities of the guest trekker. We can customise the nature trail to include a visit to the Veddas of Sri Lanka. Below is a tentative itinerary of the nature trail: First Day of the Eco Tourism Nature Trail: Commence
from Kandy around 8.30 am Spend 3 hours – covers one and a half hours of virgin forests, beautiful grass planes and rocks. It is nature at its best and protected by the government of Sri Lanka. Take away tea (10.30 am) and lunch (1.30 pm) would be served here. After lunch, drive to the Naula gem mining area (optional) and then to the Sigiriya tree huts. The Sigiriya tree huts are located around two and a half kilometers from the town and a drive into the jungle. This beautiful location with tree huts is at the edge of the forest and arrival time is around 4.30 – 5.00 pm. Tea and snacks would be served on arrival. Relax for a few hours in the evening. Dinner would be served around 7.30-8.00 pm. Dinner is set around a camp fire. It is a local Sri Lankan village dinner which includes fresh organic vegetables along with beer and local spirits. Climb to the tree huts and earn a good nights rest. The hundred percent natural tree huts contain mattresses and linen and lit by a lantern whilst the camp fire keeps burning. Trekkers who do not wish to sleep in the tree huts can sleep in a large hut located in the centre of the camping area. There are chances of seeing wild animals moving around in the night but please be assured that you will be very safe!! Day Two of the Eco Tourism Nature Trail: Wake up at 6.30 am Local breakfast with tea and coffee. Start trekking around 8.30 am along the jungle guided by three of four village folk. Here's your opportunity to see large and valuable trees such as Ebony, dip your feet into natural ponds and continue to climb the mountains. The trekking extends up to 1.00 pm and village lunch is served near a natural lake in the jungle. Resume trekking around 2.30 – 3.00 pm and go on up to 5.00 pm. Trekking needs to be stopped at this time due to the wild elephants. Return to the tree huts or remain in the heart of the jungle. This should be decided in advance so that a tent and linen could be provided. A camp fire will also burn in order to drive away the wild animals from the camping area. Dinner around 8.30 – 9.00 pm. Day Three of the Eco Tourism Nature Trail: Wake up time can be decided by you since it is the last day of your nature trail. After breakfast, trekking up to 12 noon. Return to the tree huts for lunch. Drive back to Kandy. Rates: US$ 90 per
person per day. |
